Eastern Concrete Cutting worked on the West Vent Structure which provides ventilation to the below-grade Museum space. In particular the cladding system which consists of anchors, steel beams and a wire like mesh that will wrap the exterior of the structures.
Eastern Concrete Cutting was awarded the contract to core drill over 700 1 3/8” Diameter holes for anchor bolt installation. Precise holes needed to be cored for the installation of steel plates for support beams. To speed the drilling process and preserve the structural integrity of the reinforced wall, Eastern called in the services of CityScan Corp., (www.cityscancorp.com) who specialize in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). CityScan Technicians were able to precisely locate rebar prior to core drilling.

New York City Hall Renovation
Core Drilling: Guardrail Installation
The oldest city hall in the nation that still houses its original governmental functions, New York City Hall is considered one of the finest architectural achievements of its period. Constructed from 1803 to 1812, New York City Hall is a designated New York City landmark and its rotunda is a designated interior landmark as well. The building is currently undergoing renovations throughout the structure including exterior and roofing renovations.
Eastern Concrete Cutting was awarded the contract to perform large diameter core drilling for the installation of new support beams. To insure the integrity of the 200 year old foundation, Core Drilling was chosen over conventional breaking and hammering methods because of its minimal vibration output.
Support beams had to pass thru 50" thick foundations walls. To ensure strict time lines were met, Eastern Concrete Cutting utilized three Hydraulic core drill set ups turning bits ranging in size from 18" to 24" diameter.
